Competition Introduction
The Hong Kong Young Writers Awards (HKYWA) is an annual competition for students aged 6 to 18 that encourages and recognizes outstanding performance in English writing and artistic works. Since its establishment in 2010, the competition has been a great success, receiving over 1,200 entries from approximately 200 participating schools from Hong Kong, Macau, and mainland China in 2023.
The competition generally requires works to be written in English, and the main categories include:
- Fiction
- Non-fiction
- Poetry
- Cover Art
- Chinese Poetry (added in 2024)
One winner will be chosen in each category, and one lucky student will be named The Hong Kong Young Writer of the Year. The winner will receive a trophy and a gift bag from the competition sponsor, and their work will be published. Each shortlisted nominee will receive a certificate of commendation and prizes sponsored by the sponsor.
It is a remarkable achievement for Aralia students to successfully make it onto the shortlist and receive the High Commendation Prize in the Novel category of the 2024 competition.
