Class Introduction
The International Psychology Olympiad (IPsyO) Preparation Class is designed to equip high school students with the comprehensive knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary to excel in the IPsyO competition. Aligned with the American Psychological Association’s National Standards, this course provides an engaging and rigorous exploration of foundational and advanced psychological concepts through lectures, discussions, interactive exercises, and exam-style practice.
Students will explore the breadth and depth of psychology as a scientific discipline, from brain structure and behavior to memory, development, personality, and mental health. The course emphasizes not only content mastery but also scientific inquiry, research design, and ethical considerations in psychology.

Class Outcomes
By the end of this class, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate a strong foundational understanding of psychology’s major domains
- Understand and apply principles of scientific inquiry and research methods, including experimental design, data analysis, and ethical guidelines.
- Recognize and evaluate key psychological theories and contributions from figures like Freud, Piaget, Bandura, Maslow, and more.
- Analyze psychological case studies and apply theoretical knowledge to practical examples and Olympiad-style questions.
- Improve test-taking strategies specific to the IPsyO format, including multiple-choice and written-response practice.

Class Content
The course is structured around six comprehensive modules that mirror the official IPsyO syllabus. Each module includes lecture-based instruction, group discussion, case studies, and practice questions modeled after Olympiad standards.

Class Schedule
24 sessions in total, 2 hours each, a total of 48 hours of instruction
Feedback
Students and their parents will receive brief feedback after each class regarding the student’s general participation in class. Students will also receive feedback on graded assignments via email.
