Class Introduction
This course is designed to help students develop advanced skills in revising and proofreading academic writing. Through a series of writing exercises, peer reviews, and instructor feedback, students will learn how to revise and refine writing for clarity, coherence, and style. Students will be assessed through a combination of writing assignments focused on revising and participation in class discussions and activities. The final project will be a polished piece of academic writing that demonstrates their ability to apply the strategies and principles covered in the course.
Outcome
- Develop an understanding of the writing process, including brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing
- Identify common grammar, punctuation, and syntax errors and learn how to correct them
- Practice revising and proofreading their own writing and their peers’ writing
- Learn how to give and receive constructive feedback
- Learn how to conduct research and integrate sources into their writing
- Comprehend and incorporate reading strategies for fiction and nonfiction texts
- Structure well-written introductions, body paragraphs, and conclusions
Course Content
Texts: MLA Handbook – Ninth Edition (PDFs will be provided)
Topics for this course include but are not limited to: Introduction to the Writing Process, Writing & Revising Introductions, Writing & Revising Body Paragraphs, Writing & Revising Conclusions, Proofreading, etc.
Feedback
Students and their parents will receive brief feedback after each class regarding the student’s general participation in class. Students will also receive feedback on graded assignments via email.
