London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF) Global Financial Challenge

The LIBF Financial Capability Challenge, hosted by Seedasdan, is designed for high school students interested in finance. Participants can compete individually or in teams to showcase financial literacy and analytical skills. The event evaluates contestants through financial knowledge tests and case studies, allowing for online or in-person submissions.

Competition Details

1. Competition Introduction

Founded in 2011, ASDAN China is a branch of the UK’s ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network), and it offers internationally recognized educational programs and competitions. ASDAN China hosts the Global Financial Challenge in partnership with the London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF). 

2. Competition Rounds

There are two rounds to the competition: the Preliminary Round and the National Round. The Preliminary Round is divided into 2 parts: Financial Ability Assessment and Stock Exchange Challenge. Students with outstanding grades will advance to the National Round. 

Preliminary Round

Junior and Senior will compete individually (online/offline) in the Financial Ability assessment and Stock Exchange Challenge. To prepare for the course, students take a 48-hour online course that covers: Personal Finance, Money Management, and Finance Career Paths. 

1. Financial Ability Assessment

The test assesses students’ understanding of personal finance, money management, and career paths in finance. Each question is worth one point and students have 105 minutes to answer all the questions. The total score for this assessment is 35 (15 points for Unit 1, 10 points for Unit 2, and 10 points for Unit 3).

Participants who achieve the qualification benchmark will receive a LiBF LiFE Certificate. 

2. Stock Exchange Challenge

Within 240 minutes, students have to 

  • Round 1: Provide an allocation plan for the asset of $100,000 dollars
  • Round 2 and 3: 2 operation rounds, where students have to adjust their investment portfolio according to the simulation
  • Round 4: Live personal behavior analysis report and feedback from instructors

  • Distinction: Top 20% 
  • Credit: Top 35% 
  • Prize Award: Full scores
  • LiBF LiFE Certificate: Qualifiers to National Rounds

Stock Exchange Challenge 

  • High Distinction: Top 10% 
  • Distinction: Top 20% 
  • Credit: Top 35% 

National Round

Preliminary Round Qualifiers will be invited to the National Round, participating in a 4-part competition individually and in a team to win awards and recognition. 

1. Team

To participate, students need to be in a team of 3-4, so the organizing committee will assign them to a group. 

2. Competition Content

  • Financial Knowledge Test (Individual Written Test)
  • Stock Market Simulation and Investment Decisions (Team Competition): Students will play different roles in the investment bank and make multiple rounds of investment decisions
  • Financial Bowl (Team Competition): The team will prepare the answers to the questions provided by LIBF
  • Financial Case Analysis and Roadshow (Team Competition): Students will prepare for the cases and questions provided by LIBF, and prepare for the roadshow accordingly.
