Social Justice Awards
The Social Justice Awards competition focuses on encouraging youth to explore themes related to social justice, equity, and activism through creative submissions. It is open to high school students worldwide, accepting essays, videos, and artwork that address current social justice issues.

Competition Details
1. Eligibility
The competition is open to students from all countries and schools. Participants must be 20 years old or younger by the submission deadline.
2. Prompts
High School
- “After all there are no innocent bystanders.” ― William S. Burroughs. How do you understand this quote?
- How do cultural norms and societal expectations influence bullying behavior? Are there cultural practices that either prevent or encourage bullying?
- How does bullying differ in various environments, such as in schools, online, or in the community?
- Share a personal story or experience with bullying and how it affected you or someone you know.
All candidates must answer one of these questions via writing, speech, or artwork.
Junior Prize
- Compare and contrast cyberbullying with traditional bullying. Which do you think has a more significant impact, and why?
All candidates must answer one of these questions in writing.
3. Awards
For each major category, there will be a Grand Prize, First Prize, Second Prize, Third Prize, and Short-list (Honorable Mention). The Grand Prize winner will be awarded a cash prize of $150 or 1000 RMB.
Submission Details
1. Writing Requirements
Submissions must be written in English and adhere to the following guidelines:
- Narratives or Essays should be 600-2000 words, while poetry should not exceed 80 lines.
- All work must be original, with in-text citations and a bibliography provided if external sources are referenced.
- Any instance of plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification.
- Participants should avoid including personal information such as names or home addresses in their submissions.
2. Work Format
- MS Word Format files Only (files less than 20 M)
- The title of the work must be placed on the first page of the article
- Times New Roman, 12-point type, double-spaced
- If there are references, please indicate the in-text citation and references
- The file is named by name + category (Sam Zhang, Writing)
