Class Introduction
The purpose of this course is to provide students with no or very limited experience with the French language and Francophone cultures an essential foundation for their language learning. Students who successfully follow and complete the course will attain an A1.1 (CEFR) or Novice Mid (ACTFL) proficiency level in French.
The course will focus primarily on communicative tasks (writing, speaking, reading, and listening) in a cooperative setting to provide the learner with practical language knowledge that can be applied to essential and common situations. Students will also engage with authentic materials that present Francophone cultures from around the world allow students to understand both diversity and importance of the French language.
Teacher Background
With over 10 years of experience, the teacher has been teaching all levels of French in a Dual Credit High School program. Additionally, he is an AP French Reader at the College Board. His previous students have achieved 4s and 5s in AP French.
Outcome
In addition to learning essential linguistic components, students will learn how to:
- Use basic greetings and essential conversation elements
- Communicate and understand essential identifying information about yourself and others.
- Discuss classroom necessities and leisure activities.
- Communicate and understand basic elements of weather and the essentials of urban environments
- Identify and discuss necessary aspects of food from essential ingredients to shopping in the Francophone world
Feedback
Students and their parents will receive brief feedback after each class regarding the student’s general participation in class. Students will also receive feedback on graded assignments via email.
