English Literature

In this course, students will develop skills in critically reading literature. They will also practice writing skills, including how to write arguments to support claims about what they read. This class is ideal for any student who wishes to be prepared once school resumes in a high school English class.

Class Introduction

This is a sequence of lessons suitable for an incoming high-school student or a 9th/ 10th grader. Students will develop their critical reading skills. They will also learn to write analytically.

Outcome

After completing the course, students are expected to reach the following goals:

  • Learn about literary elements (irony, theme, characterization, etc)
  • Read John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men
  • Write literary analysis paragraphs
  • Write a literary analysis essay
