Class Introduction
The Latin 5 course is the culmination of advanced Latin studies, designed for students who have developed a solid foundation in Latin grammar, syntax, and prose interpretation. This course shifts the focus to Latin poetry, exploring the rich literary tradition of ancient Rome through unadapted poetic texts. Students will analyze and translate works from prominent Latin poets, examining poetic forms, meter, and rhetorical devices to gain a deeper understanding of classical literature.
Throughout the course, students will refine their translation skills, interpreting complex poetic structures while appreciating the artistic and cultural significance of each piece. Emphasis will be placed on poetic meter, stylistic nuances, and literary analysis, enabling students to critically engage with Latin poetry.
By the end, students will complete a Latin 5 curriculum at the high school level, achieving proficiency in interpreting advanced Latin poetry.
Additionally, the course includes a focused 20-hour, 10-session preparation class for the National Latin Exam (NLE) Advanced Poetry level, providing targeted practice and exam strategies.

Feedback
Students and their parents will receive brief feedback after each class regarding the student’s general participation in class. Students will also receive feedback on graded assignments via email.
